what exactly are the differences between the two generations and which cards are comparable in terms of performance?

Well the x1k generation is simply an improved xX00 generation. All they have done is add more pipelines, support for 3.0 shaders, AVIVO technology and increased the clocks... the comparison is as follows:
x1300/x1400 -> x300/x600
x1600 -> x700
x1800 -> x800/x850/x800XT

observera att både x700pro å x1300pro i detta test är är just PRO och dom har båda 256mb och är desktopgrafikkort. där ser du att x700pro vinner över x1300pro i ALLA tester. och om du läser testet ovan om mobilx700 (som har 128mb ram och 75mhz långsammare corespeed och lite lägre ramminnesspeed än x700pro) och jämför dom resultaten med x1300pro (som INTE sitter i den bärbara du funderar över) så ser du även att mågna gånger så slår Mobilx700, x1300pro. därför kan man dra slutsatsen att om man hittar ett riktigt bra test på mobility radeon x1300 som har 150mhz lägre corespeed än pro och lägre ramminneshastighet än sin pro. så kommer mobilx700 vinna över mobil x1300 i alla tester.
som jag skrev längst upp i detta inlägg så är x1300 en uppgradering av x300. x1400 är en uppgradering över x600 och x1600 är en upgradering över x700.
aja nu blev det mkt text, men skulle jag köpa en dator så skulle jag satsa på x700 om jag fick välja mellan x700 å x1300. om du däremot hittar en dator med x1400 så blire lite knivigare, där blire lite jämnare, har för mig att x1400 går kallare å drar mindre ström än x700 men x700 är fortfarande liiite lite bättre.

Low-End Graphics Cards (highlighted in blue):
These cards are fine for multimedia purposes in addition to light 3D, but don't expect to play the latest games at anything but lower settings. That is not what they are designed for to begin with. If you are a gamer, these cards are not what you should be looking at. These cards can be found in any number of notebook sizes, ranging from as low as 12" to 17". I'd recommend having one of these cards if you like to do multimedia-oriented tasks more often than not (Photoshop, apps. such as that so that the video card won't take any of your system memory as with an integrated card).
The Radeon X1300 replaced the X300, and the Go7300 the Go6200.
What games can I play on these?
As I stated, you aren't going to want these cards for gaming. Counter-Strike: Source and Half-Life 2, plus older generation cards such as Unreal Tournament 2004 would be fine, but newer games such as FEAR - barely, if at all, playable. WoW will be fine on these cards.

Mainstream/Mid-range Graphics Cards (highlighted in green):
A clear step up in performance from the low-end cards, these cards are good enough to play the latest games at medium settings and resolutions give or take, but do not expect blazing performance. These cards are fine for the occasional gamer, but if the prime intent of your notebook is to game, you won't get spectacular performance out of these.
Mid-end cards do not produce a large amount of heat, and therefore, can be found in smaller notebooks around 13.3-14". However, they would be more common in a larger 15.4" notebooks.
The X1400/Go7400 are the replacements for the X600/6400.
Performance Standings: The two newest cards in this segment are the Go7400 and the X1400. Of the two, the Radeon X1400 is slightly faster when compared to the GeForce Go7400. Either will provide comparable performance, but the X1400, due to it's higher memory bandwidth (it has a full 128-bit bus vs. the 64-bit one in the Go7400), will perform better at higher resolutions and settings - again, the difference isn't huge, but might be noticable to more demanding users. You can't go wrong with either card.
What games can I play on these?
Unlike the low-end cards, these actually have a chance at the latest games. Half-Life 2-type games will run without issue at medium-high settings, BF2 will be fine at medium-medium-high. FEAR is where these cards will choke up, but it's going to be playable at lower settings and resolution. Oblvion is also playable. For more detailed results on the Go7400, see this thread.

Performance Graphics Cards (highlighted in red):
The Performance cards are designed for 3D gaming on a mobile level; a large desktop replacement notebook is not necessary in order to have one of these cards. They do not produce a big amount of heat, but don't exactly run cool. Battery life is balanced. A notebook equipped with one of these cards will see noticeably lower battery life when compared to one that has integrated graphics.
Performance-class cards are great for gamers wanting fast 3D performance in a mobile form factor. These cards are capable of playing the latest games with no problems, at close to or maximum settings and a balanced resolution. Typically, expect to see performance cards in a 15-15.4" notebook.
The GeForce Go7600 replaces the Go6600, and the X1600 the X700.
What games can I play on these?
These cards are what to target for playing newer games at good settings and resolution. They can handle everything on high settings (at various resolutions, depends on the game), the Go7600/X1600 more so than the Go6600/X700. FEAR would be enjoyable on a system with one of these cards as long as you have a good amount of RAM (1GB+, 1.5-2.0 is best). An X700/Go6600 can run FEAR at high settings at 800x600, the X1600 and Go7600 can do the same but at higher resolutions.
