Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition

Hur som helst ska det bli kul att se vad som händer framöver. Skönt att det blir lite konkurrens kanske AMD blir ett alternativ tills nästa datorbyte. Men Intel kommer ju inte vara sena att kontra. Helt säkert är ju iaf att de har några "ess i bakfickan" sen om det är 64-bitar eller inte får tiden utvisa projektet har ju iaf varit igång.

Årets snabbaste CPU blir tydligen en P4 Extreme Edition. 2Mb extra cache ger tydligen 2-20% extra fart. Priset uppskattas till 740$ enligt Anandtech. Intressant är att både HL2 och Doom 3 är HT optimerade.

P4 EE har sanslösa 169 miljoner transistorer. Den kommer aldrig att bli billig…

Prescott har hela 125 miljoner transistorer jämfört med Northwoods 55 miljoner. Ändå är die size mindre pga 0.09 tekniken.

Att Intel säljer ett chip som normalt kostar över 4000$ för 740$ och lanserar det som ett gaming chip med tanke på att prestand ökningarna i spel är närmast obefintliga visar hur desperata dom är undrar om dom inte skulle byta namn! från "Extreme Edition" till "Emergency Edition"
