FINALS

FINAL CHASSI

that looks awesome ! I really hope this idea becomes as good as it looks on paper, beacuse the ideas are fantastic.

And when you start with the ventilation of the case, please use 120 or 140mm fans for quiet and effecient cooling.

Går det bra, eller går det som vanligt?

Ja right, I already thought of these fans (120/140mm), and I will install one on the botton and one on the upper level, to help the natural air flow!! TACK

Permalänk

Yup, looks really cool, it would be really sweet with a colourful chassi as most chassis today are either black, grey or silver. Not saying that there is anything wrong with that though, but a funky colourful alternative would be nice.

One small detail to think about when drawing air in from the bottom, dust! Please take that point into consideration..

Seems like you have put your modell of the CPU-cooler on the side. Rise it up with the copperbase to the CPU.

Hi, nice work!

I love every aspect of the motherboard tray; The handle, the light, the USB ports...

One question, how thick is it? Possible to fit a slim slot-in CD burner in there?

To me it looks like one section is for the harddrives and the other is for the rest of the components...? If so I think it's really a clever idea. You'd be able to fit a lot of hard disk drives in there, and that is sought after by many people.

hej hej, it's exactly the way you said it, on the one side (smaller chamber) you going to have the grafic card which sticks from the motherboard and also the cooling – on the other and bigger chamber, you'll have the optical drives (I guess 2 after the talk with webhallen today), at least 6 harddrives underneath each other, the power supply and water cooling.
So the chamber in some way create a hierachy of functions.
As you can see on two pictures, I am trying to give the user the oppurtunity to recognize the inner components also from the outside, while I create a structure about the outside..
what do you think guys?

Wow! I really think that's a great idea! I think a lot of hardcore gamers and people who use lots of hard drives (like people who want a file server and a gaming computer in one) would definitely buy this. I know I would!

check this out!

Permalänk

Ooohhh, perdy colours, could you make one in red and black, pretty pretty please with sugar on top

I have a question too, not just flattering here. The handle, it looks quite narrow and it seems to be split in two, two very thin parts. I like the handle part, that is not my issue, but rather how it would feel on your hand. I dont know what kind of material you would use for your case, but a large computer case can easily reach 15 and above kilos in weight, which would put quite a strain on your hand when the handle is narrow and made up of two thinish strips of metal. Try it at school, get a box of some kind with a thin handle on, and load it up with say 15 kilos and lift it and handle it for a while.
I would rather have a broader handle without the gap in the middle.

I hope I made some sense here.

Permalänk
Medlem

Yeah, I already tried it.. it's able to hold the weight of the chassi, even it's so thin, but out of aluminium, which makes it so stabil.. of course made a lot of sense to me! thanks for your thoughts

Permalänk
Medlem

@ NANDAI
You are so right the just two panels of aluminum would hurt the hand structure by carrying it around, so that I'll add some rubber to the final version, so it lies ergonomically in the hand structure!!

Permalänk

Hiya Debbie,

Glad I could help

Have you thought about what kind of material you are going to use to build your case, steel, aluminum or something else.
I think it would be quite cool to have the outer layer of the case in some other material than the usual stuff like steel, plastic or aluminum, even if the bearing structure of the case is made of steel or something. Some scratch resistant material that would feel soft to the touch, is there any such material?

Permalänk
Medlem

hej nandai,
of course, there are wonderful smart materials such as corian, you can look it up on the net.. it's features are resistent of any scratches, heat, liquids etc, and the touch is warm but also stony, you might like it !
coming back to my chassi, it's going to be out of aluminium, because this was the material 'webhallen' demands us to use, either I am going to eloxate it more to black glossy for example, what do you think of it?

Permalänk

Aluminum is cool, lightweight and strong. Could you cover the aluminum with some other material? like that corian perhaps
If you are going to go for "just" aluminum then I would suggest eloxate it as that would probably protect the aluminum as well as make it less fingerprint friendly.

Have you thought about sound dampening at all? high performance computers can be quite loud at times lots of fans and stuff creating a racket. The case I got now, Antec P182 has got a neat built in sound dampening feature, you can check it out here,

http://www.antec.com/Believe_it/product.php?id=MTgyNA==

and of course the review here at Sweclockers, in swedish though

http://www.sweclockers.com/artikel/6201-antec_p183

One more quick question, you aren't planning on adding alot of "bling" in the form of lights and stuff I hope

Permalänk
Medlem

Ja, I thought of sound-deadening the inside side-panels, so they get less noisy.. after some talks with techniquans, I found out, that I might have just on big cooling in the chamber in which the motherborad connects, with the grafic card etc.. in the other chamber are just the optical drives, hard drives and the power suply, which all doesn't need an extra cooling, I was told.. Coming back to my point :), I think sound deadening inside + this big cooling + wholes in the material at some parts should be enough against heat and noise?!
what is your opinion?

ahh don't worry, NO BLING BLING, just a light behind the on/ off buttom

Permalänk

I would definitely use some kind of sound dampening on the part of the case that will hold the graphics card as the fan on those can be very loud. Ask Webhallen if they can let you listen to such a fan so you know how loud it can get.

Regarding cooling, you are right, the chamber with the graphics card and the processor needs the most cooling, how many fans and what size is difficult to say, this is one area where size does matter Dont go below 12 cm fans, which you have promised us earlier
In the other chamber with the optical drive, the hard drives and the power supply, you should have one fan sucking in air, but the power supply can handle blowing it out. It is good to keep the air moving, even though it will of course not get as warm as the air in the other chamber.
One way the air in this chamber could get heated up is by warmth radiating from the other chamber into this one, not really sure if that could be an issue, but if you do have a fan sucking in cool air then you will negate any such effect.

One thing, a minor thing, that will make a lot of users happy is if you were to skip the "built in fan guard to not hurt fingers on fans" that are popular with case manufacturers, see picture below,

http://www.sweclockers.com/imagebank/200806/Frontnaken_stor00...

As the intake fans should have dust filters in front of them there really is no need to have these fan guard things as they only create noise. It is one thing to have them on fans blowing air out of the case as there is no dust filter there. Maybe you could make it so that we could easily remove them from the fans blowing air out and skip them completely on the air intake fans.

I hope that made sense

wow, now a lot of more helping information for me I'll think of all these aspects – promise!!
Keep you on track

But don't work during the weekend, you have to relax and enjoy Stockholm, go to some cool museum or something

Permalänk

weekend is over – full of work.. did my last handsketching this night, so the object is from its details also done now.. tomorrow, I'll start then with the modelling.. I am trying myself really hard to finish the last cad rendering today, so I can post it for you guys here in the forum

Permalänk

Cool, really looking forward to seeing it.

When are you supposed to be done with this project?

Permalänk
Medlem

SOOO now I loaded my last versions up You can see different possibilities in material, either it's chambers and mainboard as same colors, or they differentiate in material type (matt and glossy), what combination do you like the most, which fits the best to gamers?

Just to emplain a little, you have to chambers one 180mm and the other 135mm sized. In the bigger, the grafic card and the rest of the motherboard connectors are housed also the 140mm fan on the back side. In the smaller one, you find 2 cd slots which enter vertically from the top, plus 4 harddrives underneath and the heavy power suply and also another fan.

The mainboard (center) floats 40mm above the ground, also for better cooling
The usb ports and the on/off button is almost invisible in my renderings, because they are same coloured, but you find the outside, on the overlooking mid_panel, to easy access them.

CD slots and also a visual division in the bigger under the grafic card are my little details in the cubistic shape, as you might recognize..

Wait for feedback!!

@Nandai: I'll start tomorrow with the modelling

Permalänk
Medlem

Personally I prefer the glossy white with the black handle.

It doesn't look too steady with its current "feet", seeing as the CPU cooler, along with the PSU weigh quite much. Maybe it could be solved by adding another "foot"?

Edit: I don't know if you thought of it, but both the PSU and the CPU cooler are placed in the bottom they make the whole construction a lot steadier. But still I have the feeling it won't be steady enough with the current tripod arrangement.

Permalänk
Medlem

hej hej,
thanks for your comment
the feed, I already tried them out in a pre model, suprisely hold the weight, even it's a t-structure standing on the ground.. my intend was it, to let the chassi float up, so it doesn't feel so static.. for my final rendering, I changed the arrangment of the inside totally, what you can't see yet, because I just posted closed version of my final chassi ... I thought scaling both chambers equally out for weight, so the carrying gets more easier.. one question, should there be also a fan close to the power suply, because this might also get heated up quickly??
